Let’s be honest. We’re friends. There are no secrets between us. “The Big Game” coming up in a few weeks, isn’t really about the game, it’s about the food. Maybe a little about the commercials and the Halftime Show. (We’ll all be looking for the tear-jerker Clydesdale commercial, right?) Mostly though, it’s the food. People make snack-stadiums, have big parties and drink a lot of adult beverages. I read somewhere recently, here in the USA, we buy more food for Superbowl than we do for Thanksgiving! Can you believe it? Well, yes, I can. I’ve seen my game day menu. Topping the list this year? Our very own Game Day Guacamole!
A perfect Game Day Guacamole requires perfect avocados. So, let me tell you all about CaliforniaAvocadosDirect.Com! They are a small, family-owned avocado farm right here in Southern California. The farm is run by my dear friend and fellow food blogger Mimi Avocado! Here’s Mimi and I together in Chicago last June! We were roommates and partners in crime at a bloggers conference. We’re all dressed up for our professional head shots, followed by a night out on the town! Pretty good looking, right?
Enough about us! (Although we are super cute!) Let’s get back to the avocados and our Game Day Guacamole! Mimi’s farm itself isn’t open to the public, but you can order their avocados online. Wait? Is it weird to order avocados online? No way! It’s awesome! Better than awesome, actually! Why? When you order from California Avocados Direct, the avocados are picked just for you! Avocados ripen slowly, usually in 5 to 9 days, depending on when they’re picked, so when your avocados arrive, they will need a few days to ripen. One of the best things about ordering from Mimi and her family, means no more fumbling through a huge bin of tiny avocados at the grocery store and finding nothing but mush or rock hard avocados. Since I know how avocados ripen, I can plan when I want the avocados to be ready! i.e. Just in time for the Superbowl! The taste of fresh avocado from the farm is so much better than anything you’ll find at grocery store too. There is no comparison!
Here’s my Farmers Dozen Box of 12 Large Fuerte Avocados! CaliforniaAvocadosDirect.com has plenty of options thanks to different types of avocados being available at different times of the year. They have Fuertes, Haas and Reeds. You can order six packs, twelve packs, variety packs, gift packs with pistachios, monthly subscription boxes and more! Another great benefit of ordering online? Being able to send them to friends and family all over the country! Your whole family can have perfect avocados for their perfect Game Day Guacamole!
I suppose I should tell you how to make it, now that I’ve rambled on! I can’t help it! I LOVE (with all caps) LOVE avocados. The next few weeks may be nothing but avocado recipes. Plus, avocado toast every morning! Oh yes!
Sorry! I get side-tracked with great food! Back (again) to the guacamole! We’re going to keep things fresh and healthy this year, with big chunks of avocado, tomatoes, red onion, garlic, cilantro, a tiny bit of sour cream and a spicy kick from some jalapeños! Simple, but delicious!
We chunked half of the avocados and smashed the other half in a bowl until it was smooth. You can choose to make it all chunky, more like a salsa than a guacamole, or make all of it smooth and use a food processor to pulse it to the texture you enjoy most! It’s your Game Day Guacamole after all! After that, we added diced tomato, diced red onion, minced garlic, some cilantro, sour cream and just a dash of garlic salt. That’s it!
You can serve this with your favorite tortilla chips or as a dip with carrot sticks! It also makes a great burger topping or sandwich spread! Practically anything you’re making for the game, will be better with Guacamole!
We’re friends, remember? Would I ever steer you wrong?

Your guacamole looks delicious! I have never tried it with sour cream, but will the next time :).
Sounds delicious.
So happy that you love our avocados enough to share them with all your readers! My husband planted the trees over 40 years ago, and it’s wonderful to see the fruit being sent all over the USA. Fuerte is my favorite variety, available in the winter months. Hass flavor is fuller in late spring through early fall. Either variety makes delicious guacamole! Thanks for telling the world about our small family business —- we appreciate it! Hoping we’ll get together soon — I’ll bring you some avocados!
I’m so glad you shared more! Great info! Thanks Mimi! You’re amazing! <3
