At a recent visit to Melissa’s Produce, we were gifted with a whole case of Cinnamon Persimmons! Honestly, I had no idea what to do with this bounty of deliciousness, other than slice them all to eat over homemade yogurt. Wanting to do more, it was my trusty friend Google to the rescue. There was plenty of recipe inspiration to be found – among them this Ginger Persimmon Turmeric Tea. I’ve never made my own tea before (I’m strictly a Twinnings girl) and I was very curious to see how it would turn out. It was much easier than expected. More delicious too!
Although technically, this recipe is not a tea (because there isn’t any tea in it) but an “infusion.” Basically, you toss everything in a saucepan, let it simmer a while, strain out the fruity/spice bits and there you have it! A cup of healthy, delicious tea… err… infusion.
Bonus points for this recipe as it will make your house smell fantastic as it simmers, but also warm your insides and fill your heart with love. Perhaps that last one is an exaggeration, but it could happen!
The ingredients are simple enough to double, triple or even quadruple the quantity. Let it stay warm in the crock pot, then serve as a nice drink after a heavy holiday meal. Be warned though, the turmeric will stain everything, including your hands, a lovely shade of yellow-orange if you aren’t careful. Use glass or stainless steel bowls and measuring cups. A mandolin or food processor can help you with the slicing and will keep your hands safe from discoloration.
Isn’t it lovely? The color is so pretty. It puts me in a holiday mood just looking at it.
