Pie seems to have two seasons.
The first pie season happens during the Fall. Pie bakers go crazy with Thanksgiving Pie. My favorite is a thick pecan pie with homemade whip cream on top!
The next pie season is Spring, when the fresh berries and fruits are just coming in from the fields and summer picnics start being planned. I have a lot of favorites during Spring!
No matter what the season, there is always room to learn more about pie and get some great ideas to create your own at home. But where do you learn to roll a perfect crust or understand the ratio of sugar to fruit in a fresh pie? Or even better, where can you learn how to submit your family favorite, best-loved, secret-ingredient pie in a local pie contest? Well, if you’ve been following for a while, you know The Gourmandise School is my FAVORITE place to take cooking classes and attend demos. They are, by far, one of the best schools in Southern California. Lucky for us, pie bakers have an amazing opportunity to learn professional tips and tricks during The Gourmandise School’s 6th Annual KCRW Pie Clinic on Monday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Santa Monica Place!
In this 2-hour demonstration-style class taught by KCRW Good Food host Evan Kleiman and Chef Clémence Gossett they will feature pie demonstrations, tastings, drawings and advice for those entering the KCRW Pie Contest on April 28. Not only will you learn from two incredibly talented women (and these ladies KNOW their Pie!) but you’ll get to taste the goodness too? I don’t know about you, but I’m IN!
All ages are welcome to join this delicious event! Register online at TheGourmandiseSchool.com.
Happy Spring Pie Season, everyone! See you on the 8th!
