Have you ever looked in a mirror and wondered about the person looking back at you? That’s been happening a lot lately. I’m pretty sure it’s because of this whole smoothie kick. Today’s experiment was a Strawberry Banana Oat Smoothie and it was great!
It was great?
I made a smoothie and said it was great?
Who AM I?
While I’ve been staring at myself in the mirror, asking that question over and over again, I’ve noticed a few things. There are more wrinkles around my eyes. My hair is far more gray than it was a few years ago. Someone asked me this weekend if I were retired already. Retired? Excuse me? Do I look like I should be retired already? This is not good, friends. I’m only 47 years old! There is a lot of life ahead of me yet to be lived! I think that’s why I’ve been obsessed with smoothies the last few days. It’s time to make those health changes and get back to a thinner, better me! I may not like it, or want to admit it, but obviously perfect strangers are seeing how seriously my poor health is wreaking havoc on my life.
So, I’m making smoothies that make me feel good. I’m finding things that are lower in calories and still high on the flavor factor. This was a smoothie I put together with things in my freezer and pantry. Nothing fancy. No weird ingredients. Just good-for-you-food, that goes together quickly and easily.
This smoothie is perfect for breakfast. The oats fill you up and keep you going all morning! The strawberries act like ice, so your smoothie doesn’t get watered down or lose that fresh fruit taste! A touch of honey makes it just sweet enough to be fun and the cinnamon brings that heart-healthy factor to the party. So when I say this is a great Strawberry Banana Oat Smoothie, I mean it! It’s really good and you should try it!
If you don’t mind your smoothies chunky, dump everything in your blender pitcher and blend away! If you’re like me, and prefer your smoothies to be… well… smooth, then add the oats to your blender first. Pulse until the Oats become powdery, then add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth. It doesn’t get any easier! If I’m lucky, it might help people start saying “Oh you look so young!” instead of “Are you retired yet?”
